About
Dr. Naira is a Scientific researcher and space-exploration enthusiast. He obtained his PhD degree from IIT Guwahati in the area of Biosciences and Bioengineering. Later he gained 4+ years' of experience by working in various industry and academia labs. He is awarded with DBT-RA fellowship (2022 - 2024) from Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India. He has proven skills in the areas of bioprocess engineering, biopharmaceuticals development, strain engineering, molecular biology, bioinformatics, and enzyme production. He has contributed ten scientific publications that include original articles, reviews, book chapters, and protocols. He is highly regarded for positive attitude, result-driven, innovative, self-starting, problem solving, continuous learning, mentoring, team/project manager and multi-tasking. He also has great managerial skills like mentoring/supervising Bachelors and Masters students, organizing member of workshops and seminars, new project proposal writing, multiple project management, and knowledge of establishing new laboratory at IITs.
Skills and abilities
• Experienced in designing DNA expression constructs in silico, transformation, cloning and expression of enyzmes and proteins in bacterial and yeast systems, i.e., E.coli.
• Experienced in CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing technology.
• Experienced in working with newly isolated fungi (non-model fungi) for optimization lipase enzyme and bioremediation of waste-cooking oils.
• Experienced in working with various bioinformatics tools for in silico analysis of enzymes and protein modelling.
• Experience in screening/biomass optimization of microalgal strains (i.e., Chlorella, Chromochloris, Parachlorella,) for lipids, specific carotenoids (i.e., astaxanthin, lutein, beta/alpha-carotene, etc.) by using analytical instrumentation such as HPLC, GC-FID, GC-MS, UV-Vis, Adcanced microscopy.
• 11 years experience in optimizing culture conditions at benchtop and bioreactor scales (shake-flask, 500 mL, 5L, and 10 L) to maximize bioproducts such as biodiesel, specific carotenoids in terms of final titers, rate, and yields.
• Sound knowledge and understanding the cellular dynamics of biological cells subjected to nutrient supplementation using multi-omics platform to identify relevant enzyme-encoding genes and evaluate mechanisms in microorganisms that will contribute towards the engineering of regulatory networks of non-model/model strains for increased cell biomass and bioproducts.
