About

Prof. Varun Sharma is currently an Associate Professor in Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering of IIT Roorkee, a renowned technical institution in India. He is a passionate academician with extensive research acumen in the domain of additive and subtractive manufacturing. He graduated with B.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering from Punjab Technical University(PTU), Jalandhar. Then, he embarked on his research career with M.Tech in Production Engineering from Punjab Technical University(PTU), Jalandhar and completed Ph.D from IIT, Delhi with 10 CGPA in course work exhibiting whopping zeal and prudency towards research. Before joining IIT Roorkee, he worked as Research Associate in IIT Delhi and Assistant Professor at Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS), Pilani.
He has bagged numerous awards and laurels during his academic journey. He is a recipient of University Gold Medal in both degree and masters in the year 2011 and 2013, respectively. Besides these, he has plethora of recognitions to his credit. He is presently guiding 9 Ph.D scholars and has supervised 2 M.Tech scholars with 2 scholars more on the way. During his research stint so far, he has more than 50 research publications in various esteemed peer-reviewed journals and conferences and a patent accepted successfully. Moreover, he has completed 3 projects and has been working on 4 more sponsored projects. He has delivered several invited lectures across the country and has many collaborations with fellow researchers sharing similar research interests.
With enormous desire and proficiency in the field of manufacturing, he strives to put significant contribution towards technological advancements for the betterment of society and environment.
