About
Dr Alok Kumar is an accomplished geoscientist specialising in coal geology, organic petrology, and geochemistry, with over a decade of research experience. He is currently serving as a National Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Geology at Banaras Hindu University, India. He previously held a postdoctoral position at the University of Malaya, Malaysia, where he contributed to advanced research on hydrocarbon generation and paleoenvironmental reconstruction.
Dr Kumar earned his PhD in Geology from the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, with a focus on the petrological and geochemical characterisation of lignite deposits. He holds an M.Sc.Tech. in Applied Geology from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and a B.Sc. from the University of Allahabad.
His research spans coal characterisation, rare earth elements in coal, source rock evaluation, and paleoclimate reconstruction. He has conducted studies across India and internationally, including Australia, Malaysia, and New Zealand, and has trained researchers and industry professionals in coal petrography.
A recipient of prestigious fellowships such as ANRF-NPDF and UMPDRF, Awards such as the Prabhakar Viswanath Dehadrai Medal, Dr Kumar is also a Certified Petrographer recognised by the International Committee for Coal and Organic Petrology. He has published over 50 SCI-indexed research papers in reputed international journals and actively contributes to the global geoscience community as an Associate Editor and academic mentor.
