About
I am a full professor in remote sensing and image processing and is Head, Department of Earth and Space Sciences, Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Department of Space, Government of India, Thiruvananthapuram. I my obtained M.Tech (Remote Sensing) from the Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi in 2001, and PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee on hyperspectral image processing in 2006. After a brief stint at RMSI Pvt. Ltd as a project leader, I continued academic pursuits at RMIT University, Australia, and Leibniz-Center for Agricultural Landscape Research, Germany, as a postdoctoral research scientist from 2007 to 2010. During this period, I performed research works on hyperspectral image processing and analysis methods and developed several new hyperspectral data analysis algorithms. The results of these studies are published in several peer-reviewed journals by IEEE / Elsevier, Springer/ Taylor & Francis etc. Composed of several doctoral and masters students, my team has been working on (i) 3D modelling (crops, trees, forest stands, buildings, hills, etc.) using LiDAR data, (ii) hyperspectral image processing: methods for classification, dimensionality, spectral library search, spectroradiometry, onboard and real-time image analysis, (iii) target detection, material identification, water quality, agriculture, forestry, spectral unmixing. Data & platforms: multi, hyperspectral, LiDAR; ground, drone, airborne, and satellite.
