About

Dr. Jogendra Singh, Senior Scientist (Genetics and Plant Breeding), ICAR-Central Soil Salinity Research Institute, Karnal, has been associated for the last 16 years with the genetic improvement of Indian Mustard and Chickpea. He developed salt tolerant Indian mustard varieties CS 58, CS 60, CS 61, CS 62 and CS 64 notified by CVRC. He has been instrumental in establishing non-destructive estimation of oil, protein, erucic acid and crude fibre content in Indian mustard. He also accomplished genetic diversity and population structure studies, morphological and molecular characterization, development of mapping population for tagging salt tolerance QTLs and quality seed production of Mustard and Chickpea. His research envisaged increasing productivity of salt affected land vis-à-vis enhancing the national production of mustard and the livelihood of resource-poor farmers living in salt affected with an efficient, environmentally safe and cost-effective way for sustainable intensification using problematic land and water resources.
