About
Felix Chilunga is a medical doctor specializing in the prevention and treatment of cardiometabolic diseases. He has nearly nine years of international experience in South Africa, Ghana, Belgium, United States of America, Spain, and the Netherlands. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the Amsterdam University Medical Center's in the Netherlands. His research is part of a large European Union (EU)-funded project that aims to uncover novel drivers and develop interventions for cardiometabolic diseases in Africans living on the African continent as well as Africans living in Europe. Felix is a seasoned advocate for the prevention of cardiometabolic diseases among African youth. He was chosen as the World Health Organization's youth ambassador for noncommunicable diseases (2019). He was invited to be a guest scientific speaker during Black History Month in Belgium, and he recently founded the Young African NCD Investigators (YANDI) Network. Felix values humanitarian work and has previously volunteered at the Medecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) -Brussels operations center. He has received numerous prestigious awards from the Malawi AIDS Commission, the European Union, the European Association for the Study of Diabetes, the African Partnership for Chronic Disease Research, the International Epidemiology Association and Dutch Government Health sector funds. Felix has published papers on the causes, prevention and treatment of cardiometabolic diseases in Africans in prestigious peer-reviewed journals such as The Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology, The Lancet Health Longevity, The Lancet Regional Health Europe, Nature Genomic Medicine, and International Journal of Epidemiology.
