About

I am a Professor of Epidemiology at Seoul National University Graduate School of Public Health in Seoul, Korea. My research adopts a population health perspective and encompasses diverse topics related to infectious diseases, chronic conditions, and behavioral risk factors. These risk factors include tobacco and alcohol use, physical activity, work-related stress, and sleep.

As a consultant, I have worked with the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency and the Seoul Metropolitan Government. My role involves supporting policy development and evaluating initiatives related to tobacco control, epidemic preparedness, and public health surveillance.

A recent area of interest for me is the epidemiologic study of sleep, drawing on data from various surveys. Sleep plays a vital role in overall health, functioning as both a risk factor and a potential mediator or moderator. Despite South Korea’s remarkable economic growth and rising life expectancy, mental health remains a persistent challenge. In collaboration with sleep experts at the University of Chicago, my research aims to inform public health strategies that promote sleep-related health and enhance the population’s overall well‑being.
