Dr. Santosh Kumar (OPTICA Fellow, SPIE Fellow, IETE Fellow, IEEE Senior Member)
Dr. Santosh Kumar is a Professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at Koneru Lakshmaiah Education Foundation (KLEF), India. He also serves as the Lab Head of the Centre of Excellence for Nanotechnology (CoE-NANO), Group Head of the Nanotechnology Research Group (NTRG), and Advisor - R&D at KLEF. He earned his Ph.D. from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad in 2014 and was previously with Liaocheng University, China (2018–2023).
Recognized among the world’s top 2% scientists by Stanford University for six consecutive years, Dr. Kumar has supervised 41 M.Tech. dissertations and nine Ph.D. candidates. He has published over 575 research articles in prestigious SCI journals, with more than 13,000 citations and an h-index of 67. His 130 papers are recognized under various Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) according to Scopus. He has been ranked the 2nd most outstanding researcher worldwide in Biosensors by Scopus Research Discovery. His research has been featured in leading journals such as Biosensors and Bioelectronics, Journal of Lightwave Technology, Optics Express, Optics Letters, Applied Physics Letters, ACS Applied Nano Materials, and Biosensors.
His expertise spans fiber optic sensors, photonics and plasmonic devices, nano- and biophotonics, waveguides, interferometers, and the Internet of Things. He has authored 14 scholarly books with CRC Press (Taylor & Francis), IEEE-Wiley, and Springer Nature. Dr. Kumar was recently granted a patent for his groundbreaking optical fiber sensing technology and has granted/published 18 patents on biosensing applications.
A highly regarded expert, he has reviewed several top-tier SCI journals published by IEEE, Elsevier, Springer, OPTICA, SPIE, and Nature. His collaborative research extends across institutions in India, China, Portugal, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Brazil, France, and Italy.
Dr. Kumar is a Fellow of OPTICA, Fellow of SPIE and IETE, a Life Fellow of the Optical Society of India (OSI), and a Senior Member of IEEE, OPTICA, and SPIE. He is an OPTICA Traveling Lecturer and serves as the Chair of the Optica Optical Biosensor Technical Group, USA.
His recent accolades include the Best Performing Associate Editor Award from IEEE Sensors Journal, USA, the Best IEEE JLT Paper Award from USA, and the Foreign Distinguished Professor Award from China.
