About
Dr. H. K. Makari (Makari Hanumanthappa) is a microbiologist, academician, and researcher whose work focuses on advancing microbial science and sustainable solutions for controlling bacterial infections. His research interests include bacteriophage isolation and characterization, phage therapy, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), microbial biotechnology, and the application of microbial technologies in agriculture and veterinary health.
Dr. Makari’s research emphasizes the development of innovative and environmentally sustainable strategies to combat antibiotic-resistant pathogens. He has contributed to scientific literature through research articles, review papers, and academic publications addressing emerging challenges in microbiology and antimicrobial resistance. His scholarly work explores the use of bacteriophages as alternative biological agents for disease management in crop and livestock systems.
He has also proposed research initiatives such as the establishment of a Sustainable Phage Bank for Crop and Livestock Bacterial Infection Control and the GreenShield Phage platform, aimed at creating region-specific bacteriophage resources and integrating rapid diagnostics with phage-based disease management approaches. These initiatives support the development of sustainable ecosystems for managing bacterial diseases while reducing dependence on antibiotics.
In addition to research, Dr. Makari is actively engaged in teaching, mentoring students, and participating in scientific workshops, conferences, and collaborative research programs. Through his academic contributions and research activities, he aims to promote innovative microbial technologies and contribute to global efforts addressing antimicrobial resistance and sustainable health systems.
