About

Dr. Arun Kumar Joshi, Principal Scientist, Global Wheat Program, CIMMYT South Asia, Kathmandu, Nepal. A native of Uttarakhand, India, Dr. Joshi obtained his BS, MS and PhD from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India. He joined CIMMYT in January 2009 and presently coordinating wheat breeding activities of CIMMYT in South Asia. He is also engaged in testing, release, seed increase and dissemination of Ug99 resistant wheat varieties in many countries. He is also Professor, Genetics and Plant Breeding, at the Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University. Dr. Joshi, an INSA (India) fellow, has made numerous contributions to wheat improvement research especially in understanding heat tolerance and host-pathogen interaction with respect to spot blotch of wheat, which is No. 1 pathogen in the huge warmer humid region of India and South Asia. In addition, he has educated hundreds of wheat researchers and farmers of eastern Gangetic plains of India through participatory approach. His research findings are published in 111 refereed journal articles; 6 books, book chapters, and reviews; 56 symposia proceedings and 78 symposia abstracts, and has one patent.
