About

I Dr. Suraj Kumar (BPT, MPT, PhD-Physiotherapy, MIAP, SRF-ICMR) was born in 1975 in Nalanda, Bihar. In 2000, graduated from Delhi University and went on to earn a master's degree in sports physiotherapy from Bhopal University. I earned my PhD with a senior research fellowship (Indian Council of Medical Research) from Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University in Lucknow. I also obtained a special B.Ed. in 'Locomotor Impairment and Cerebral Palsy' from the Rehabilitation Council of India in 2004.
I also served as Indian National Women's Hockey team's official physiotherapist from 2004-06, during Fifteenth Asian Games in Doha, Qatar..
I have written multiple books (8), including 'Exercise Therapy', 'Physiotherapy in Medical Conditions', and 'MCQs for Physiotherapists', as well as research papers (108) in major international and national journals, including substantial scientific contributions supported by ICMR. i. Assessment of dynamic muscular stabilization in non-operative treatment of lumbar pain syndrome: A single-blinded controlled study, Instt.- King George’s Medical University, Lucknow (2007-09); ii. Efficacy of early activation by tilt table ergo in hemiplegic patients on clinical parameters and quality of life, Instt.- UPUMS, Saifai, Etawah (2017-19). I have presented my work (6) in oral and poster formats at prestigious conferences in young scientist category. I Have contributed to six research projects, two commentaries, and one book review, as well as serving as a journal reviewer and board member for 2 journals, delivered 103 lectures on physiotherapy, health, and well-being at several famous Indian colleges.
I am currently working as professor at Centre for Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Sciences since April 2023, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. From 2013-23, I served as Dean of Paramedical Faculty and Head of the Physiotherapy Department at Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences, Saifai, Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, India. My extensive experience includes being Head of Department at the Institute of Physiotherapy in Lucknow from 2003-05, a lecturer at Kanpur University from 2005-06, a lecturer at North-East Regional Centre, NIOH in Aizwal from 2006-07, and a teaching faculty member at Pt. Deen Dayal Institute for Physically Handicapped, Delhi University from 2008-12. I have also been involved in teaching and clinical at several institutions, including Ram Lal Kundan Lal Orthopedic Hospital, ASRA-New Delhi (NGO), SCRTV-New Delhi (NGO), Chetna-Lucknow, UNDP Project-Lucknow, and Manovikas-New Delhi.
I have received 11 awards, including 'India Medico Award' in 2012 by IAP, the 'Significant Contribution Award' in 2014 by AIIMS, 'Significant Contribution Award' in 2016 by AIIMS, 'Excellence in Academics Award' in 2017 by Rajasthan Association of Physiotherapy, 'Best Achievement Award' in 2017 by IAP, 'Best Academician Award-Aryabhat of Physiotherapy' in 2019, 'Travel Grant Award' in 2019 by ICDM held in Seoul, South Korea, and 'Outstanding Achievement in Agriculture Award’ in 2019 at 3rd Global Meet, Ajmer, ‘Fellowship Award’ in 2022 by IAP, ‘Ideal Physiotherapy Award’ in 2022 at Ayodhya, ‘Best Research Appreciation Award’ in 2022 by MG Physiocon.
I am a lifelong member of Indian Association of Physiotherapy (Reg. No. 6375), the Delhi Council of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy (Reg. No. P0032), and Indian Science Congress (Membership No. L14290), and member of Rehabilitation Council of India (CRR No.: A06347) and Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Services Welfare Association's executive committee (L00098/04).
