About

• She is at present associated with Vindhyan Ecology and Natural History Foundation, Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh as a scientific advisor. She is involved in supervision of various projects of the organization like Review of Environmental Impact Assessment of proposed Welspun Thermal Power plant, Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, India, Review of Eco-sensitive zone notification of Kaimoor Wildlife Sanctuary, Uttar Pradesh, India. She has independently supervised the WWF funded project “Assessment of Sloth Bear habitat and wildlife corridors in Mirzapur Forests.” Uttar Pradesh, India”(2015-2016).
• She is also the regional ambassador of Asia (2021-22), Women+ in Geospatial. She represented W+G in the GeoWomen panel at SgGeoFest 2021(September 14th, 2021) in Singapore. Her presentations have highlighted the building of an inclusive and diverse community and empowering women. She was honored and humbled to be a part of the Jury for the ASEAN Geospatial challenge, 2022. Also as a mentor and reviewer for the projects in She Leads and She Inspires programme of Open Mapping Hub Asia Pacific.
• Recently, she was nominated and elected as a Humanitarian OSM Voting Member from India. She is the founder of Geo Sakhi, an online learning platform & community for geospatial women enthusiasts.
• She has successfully organized a MASTERCLASS 2021 and MASTERCLASS 2022, which provided free quality education on trending geospatial topics. It was hosted in collaboration with Regional Group Subsaharan Africa Women +in Geospatial, African Women in GIS and Geolatinas, Philippines. She also organized a Poster competition for women scholars and a panel discussion with Women Scientist of Pakistan to mark the World Space Week, 2021.
• She visited many schools virtually during the pandemic through Skypeascientist and had fascinating conversations with children about space science.
• Her tutoring and guidance as a mentor at Women+ in GIS; African Women in GIS and STEM Mentorship GOALS Mentor Meet and Greet Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum New York has proved beneficial for many students. She has taught students from various curriculums, undergraduate and postgraduate.
• Her expertise in Remote sensing and GIS has helped her to critically evaluate the remote sensing analysis in environment impact assessments – Welspun Thermal Power plant. Her research inputs were presented as a defense in the case in National Green Tribunal. For the first time such scientific inputs were realized to be quiet significant and brought awareness among the Judiciary. The research paper in “Present Environment and Sustainable development” (October, 2015) finds a mention in Wikipedia also.
• She is also associated with “ThinktoSustain” which is an initiative of Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow. She topical issues related to ecology, global warming and climate change since 2010. She has tried to bring awareness about sustainable use of natural resources. She interviewed Blessing J. Karumbidza and Wally Menne in one of their projects in Africa about CDM: Carbons sink tree plantations: Insights into sustainability issues where critical evaluation of CDM was analysed.
• She worked as a JRF and SRF in Forestry and Ecology Division, National Remote Sensing Centre, Hyderabad from June, 1999 to November, 2003. She worked in Indian Space Research Organization Geosphere and Biosphere Project named: ‘Community Diversity Assessment in Vindhyans using Remote Sensing and GIS’. The study addressed the analysis of biodiversity at various scales (regional and local), forest fragmentation and its impact on biodiversity, Analysis of temporal change in various part of the forest in the Vindhyans over a period of ten years (1988-1998) was conducted. Multiseason and multitemporal satellite data were used in the study. Various plant communities were delineated spectrally. Forest fragmentation and loss of species was quantified in various communities using geospatial technology.
• She successfully completed her Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Technology from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad in 2007. During her tenure, she was actively involved in various projects like Environmental Impact Assessment of Korba and Farakka NTPC (2000). She interestingly participated in various conferences and seminars, also communicated a couple of papers in Hindi and presented at Inter Centre Technical Seminar in Hindi, ISTRAC, Bangalore held on 13 th September, 2001.
• She completed her B. Sc (Botany, Zoology and Chemistry) and M. sc (Botany) from University of Allahabad, Allahabad. Her specialization in M.sc (final) was in plant taxonomy.
• She desires to translate the research findings on to ground reality. She wishes to work for conservation and protection of wildlife, biodiversity and forests using her expertise.
