Dr. Raman Krishna Kumar is presently a clinical professor and head of the department of pediatric cardiology at the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Center, Cochin. He did his fellowship in cardiology from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He then underwent fellowship training in pediatric cardiology from Children’s Hospital Boston, USA (1994-1996).
After returning to India, he helped establish the pediatric heart program at the Amrita Institute Of Medical Sciences in 1998 where he was the professor and head of department. Under his leadership, the department acquired international reputation in quality of clinical services, research and training.
His clinical focus is diverse because of the unique requirements of the population he serves. This includes echocardiography, catheter interventions and intensive care. His chief research interests relate to epidemiology of heart disease in the developing world and developing cost effective clinical strategies for diagnosis and treatment of pediatric heart disease in developing countries. He has published over 100 indexed original and review articles.
