Lieutenant (Dr.) Santosh Kumar (Top 2% Scientists Globally, Stanford/ Elsevier 2% Ranking 2025) is a distinguished Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Head of the NCC Department (Associate NCC Officer) at Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran, Mohali, Punjab. He was commissioned as a Lieutenant (Army Wing) on October 14, 2024, from the Officer Training Academy, Kamptee, Maharashtra, India. Subsequently, on March 5, 2025, he received an appreciation award/certificate from Major General JS Cheema, Additional Director General, NCC, for his outstanding performance in training activities during the year 2024-2025.
Beyond his academic roles, Dr. Kumar has been a dedicated NSS Programme Officer since 2017. He has profoundly shaped numerous NCC cadets and NSS volunteers, instilling responsible citizenship and a strong sense of community service. His impactful mentorship is evident, with many of his cadets successfully joining the Indian Army.
Dr. Kumar has been instrumental in orchestrating a wide array of impactful outreach activities, collaborating extensively with NCC cadets and NSS volunteers. These initiatives, vital for holistic student development and community engagement, include:
• Environmental Stewardship: Leading numerous tree plantation drives and actively participating in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Garbage Free India-Swachchta Hi Sewa).
• Public Health & Awareness: Organizing impactful drug and cancer awareness campaigns, alongside beneficial Yoga Camps.
• Social Responsibility: Spearheading vital blood donation camps as part of the college's commitment to corporate social responsibility.
His commitment to , NCC training consistently yields remarkable student achievements. In 2024-2025 alone, five of his cadets participated in prestigious National Level Camps, including the Republic Day Camp, All India Thal Sainik Camp, and Inter Directorate Sports Shooting Competitions. His cadets routinely earn numerous National Awards, underscoring his high-caliber leadership. In 2024-2025, five cadets of CGC Landran become commissioned Officer as Lieutenant.
Academically, Dr. Kumar has published many research papers, books, and book chapters in the fields of surface Engineering, 3D printing, Metal Matrix Composite, Welding, and Biofuels. He has also granted many patents in the diverse field of engineering. His academic achievements have been recognized with awards such as the Best Teacher Award, the Special Achievement Award, and a University Gold Medal. Furthermore, he contributes to the scientific community as a reviewer and editor for several reputable journals and has received additional awards for his significant contributions to research and innovation.
