About

Professor G A Kumudu Sandhya Perera holds B.Sc. (Hons - Physics), M.Sc. (Agriculture Engineering) and Ph.D. (Physics) from University of Peradeniya Sri Lanka. She has received a Fellowship from International Programme for Physical Sciences, Sweden to carryout part of her Ph.D. experimental work at Department of Chemistry, Technical University of Denmark twice in 1996 and 1998. She is the first Ph.D. recipient of Postgraduate Institute of Science in Sri Lanka. She posses a teaching experience in higher education sector for more than 20 years in the main discipline of Physics in serving in the Department of Physics, University of Peradeniya and Department of Electronics, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka. She has developed her research carrier which records a history of more than 20 years in combining Solid State Physics and Electrochemistry. Her research expertise covers solid polymer electrolytes and their applications in rechargeable cells, dye sensitized solar cells and super capacitors. After joining Wayamba University of Sri Lanka in 2003, she has devoted her time to design new degree programmes and to introduce a conducive research culture to Wayamba University of Sri Lanka from the scratch. She was able to grab several research grants and pioneered to establish a research laboratory and a research group (Polymer Electronics Research Group (PERG)) to carry out research activities related to Polymer Electronics. As one of the group leaders, she has rendered her maximum service to train human resources by supervising so many undergraduates and several Ph.D. and M. Phil. students. Her commitment in research activities have been recognized via several awards. She extends her expertise as an invited speaker, a reviewer for many reputed journals and a postgraduate research examiner. She has served in many national and international conference advisory and organizing committees. She is a member and fellow of several professional bodies. She has served as a Visiting Researcher in School of Chemical and Physical Sciences, Keele University for 16 months. She has an ample experience in diverse range administration roles including Head of the Department, Academic Advisor, Mentor and Chief Student Counsellor.
