About
Dr. Parthiban Kathirvel is a Senior Assistant Professor in the School of Civil Engineering at SASTRA Deemed University, Thanjavur, with more than 17 years of academic and industrial experience. He received his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from SASTRA University in 2017 for his research on the strength and durability of geopolymer concrete incorporating recycled aggregates. He also holds an M.E. in Computer Methods and Applications in Structural Engineering, an MBA in Technology Management, and a B.Tech. in Civil Engineering.
His research focuses on sustainable construction materials, geopolymer and alkali-activated binders, waste-derived activators, recycled aggregate concrete, ultra-high-performance concrete, fibre-reinforced composites, durability, and impact and fracture behaviour. His work primarily explores the effective utilization of agricultural and industrial wastes in developing low-carbon, durable, and high-performance construction materials.
Dr. Kathirvel has published 51 research articles with a cumulative journal impact factor of 194.2. He has an h-index of 24 and an i10-index of 36. His research has been published in reputed journals such as *Construction and Building Materials*, *Journal of Cleaner Production*, *Journal of Building Engineering*, *Defence Technology*, *Structural Concrete*, *Theoretical and Applied Fracture Mechanics*, and *Case Studies in Construction Materials*. He has also authored and edited three books, contributed five book chapters, and published two Indian patents.
He was included in the World’s Top 2% Scientists database released by Stanford University and Elsevier for 2024. He received the Young Researcher Award from the Institute of Scholars in 2020 for his research on sustainable geopolymer binders using sodium silicate synthesized from agricultural waste. In recognition of his contribution to scholarly publishing and editorial activities, he received the Editorial Contribution Award from *Scientific Reports* in 2026.
He has served as an editorial board member, guest editor, international conference committee member, invited speaker, and reviewer for several reputed journals and professional forums. His teaching expertise includes Engineering Mechanics, Structural Analysis, Concrete Structures, Earthquake-Resistant Design, Pavement Design, Ground Improvement Techniques, and Mechanics of Solids. His academic contributions reflect a strong commitment to teaching, research supervision, sustainable construction, and the development of environmentally responsible civil engineering materials.
