About

I am Dr. K. S. Anoop Das, currently serving as the Head and Assistant Professor at the Centre for Conservation Ecology, Department of Zoology, MES Mampad College (Autonomous), affiliated to the University of Calicut, Kerala, India.
I have been associated with several international academic and research institutions through collaborative research and visiting appointments. I currently serve as a Visiting Scientist at the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL), Switzerland, a Visiting Faculty at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI), and a Visiting Professor at Leshan Normal University, China. In addition, I am an Adjunct Scientist at the Wildlife Research and Conservation Trust (WRCT), Kerala, India. I am also affiliated with several international scientific networks, including the IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC) – South Asian Invertebrate Specialist Group and the International Union for Biological Sciences (IUBS), France, among other professional memberships.
My research primarily focuses on biodiversity assessment, conservation ecology, and ecosystem studies, with particular emphasis on the Western Ghats biodiversity hotspot of India. My work involves documenting poorly explored ecosystems, species discovery, and understanding ecological processes relevant to biodiversity conservation. I have supervised several doctoral researchers and postgraduate students, and mentoring early-career scientists has been an integral component of my academic activities.
My research has been supported by several national and international funding agencies, including the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF), Wildlife Trust (New York), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), IDEA WILD (USA), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). At the national level, my work has also received funding through competitive grants such as the UGC Major Research Project and DST-SERB. These opportunities have enabled me to present research findings and participate in scientific conferences, workshops, and collaborative programs across numerous countries.
I have also participated in academic training programs and international scientific exchanges organized by globally recognized institutions including Cambridge University, University of Leicester, the US Fish and Wildlife Service, the California Academy of Sciences, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
In recognition of my contributions to biodiversity research, I was awarded the Dr. C. Chandrasekharan Memorial Award (2012) for the Best Young Scientist in Kerala by the Kerala Forest Research Institute, and the Best Biodiversity Researcher in the State Award (2015) by the Kerala State Biodiversity Board. Overall, I have received approximately 40 national and international awards and research grants supporting my work in biodiversity and conservation science.
My academic contributions include peer-reviewed research publications, conference proceedings, and technical reports, largely focusing on zoology, biodiversity documentation, taxonomy, and conservation ecology, particularly within the ecosystems of the Western Ghats.
