About

I have been passionate about science since my early school days and continue to remain enthusiastic about learning, teaching, research, and knowledge sharing. I strongly believe in lifelong learning and always strive to improve my knowledge, skills, and abilities whenever opportunities arise. I enjoy discussing and exchanging scientific ideas with teachers, mentors, supervisors, colleagues, and students, which has continuously shaped my academic and professional growth.

I, Dr. Vandavasi Koteswara Rao, obtained my M.Sc. from University of Hyderabad and Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Science, followed by postdoctoral research at Indian Institute of Science and Youngstown State University. I am currently serving as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at GITAM since June 2019. My research focuses on the design and synthesis of inorganic open-framework materials, including metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs), with emphasis on structure–property relationships, gas adsorption and separation, catalysis, photoluminescence, and energy and environmental applications, along with analytical method development using chromatographic techniques.

I have published over 32 peer-reviewed research articles (h-index ~8; 260+ citations) in journals from ACS, Elsevier, RSC, Wiley, Springer, and IUCr, and actively serve as a reviewer for international publishers including Wiley, Springer Nature, and Bentham Science. I have successfully supervised three Ph.D. scholars and 14 M.Sc. students to completion and actively mentor students toward higher education and competitive examinations such as GATE and CSIR-NET.

I qualified national-level examinations including GATE and CSIR-NET and received the Young Faculty Award (2016). My teaching and research experience spans institutions including Youngstown State University (USA), Vignan University, NIT Andhra Pradesh, and GITAM.

In addition to academics and research, I actively contribute as a resource person, invited speaker, session chair, question paper setter, external examiner, subject expert, convenor, co-convenor, organizing committee member, and judge for FDPs, conferences, workshops, and technical events, while also promoting academia–industry interactions for consultancy and collaborative activities.

I am also a Certified Behavior & Mentoring Analyst (CBMA) and have participated in leadership development initiatives including the Catalyst Program and Vanguard Leadership Program organized by GITAM, reflecting my continued interest in mentoring, leadership, student development, and institutional growth.

My experiences across different institutes and academic environments have helped me develop effective teaching, research, administrative, leadership, and mentoring skills, while also strengthening my commitment toward improving science education, research culture, collaborative learning, and preparing young minds to confidently address future scientific and societal challenges through innovation, teamwork, and independent thinking.
