About
Dr. Hitendra M. Patel is a distinguished Professor of Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry at Sardar Patel University, V. V. Nagar, Gujarat, India. With over 29 years of teaching experience and 20 years of research expertise, he has made significant contributions to the field of organic and medicinal chemistry. Dr. Patel was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), London, in 2020. He has actively contributed to the RSC community, serving as an Elected Member of the Organic Division Council from 2020 to 2023, and was appointed Chair of the Royal Society of Chemistry – West India Local Section in 2026. His research focuses on the development of bioactive heterocyclic scaffolds through multi-component reactions, emphasizing green chemistry approaches and medicinal chemistry. His work includes the synthesis of small molecules, as well as virtual and biomolecular screening techniques. Dr. Patel has been the recipient of several prestigious research grants, including the RSC Sustainable Laboratory Grant Award (£10,000), and funding support amounting to ₹51.81 lakh from national agencies such as DST-SERB and UGC, New Delhi. He was also selected as a Brand Ambassador for Bentham Science Publishers during 2018–2019. An accomplished academic, Dr. Patel has delivered numerous invited lectures at national and international conferences and universities. He has received several notable awards, including the Renato Dulbecco Memorial Award (2024) at the World Cancer Congress in New Delhi, the Edward Kennedy Memorial Award (2024) at the 6th Global Cancer Summit held at IISc Bangalore, and the Academic Scientist Award (2025) from the Indian Society of Chemists and Biologists at the University of Lucknow. Additionally, he was honored with the Distinguished Faculty in Science Award (2017) by the Venus International Foundation. Dr. Patel has also been recognized for his contributions to academic publishing and peer review. He received the Outstanding Contribution Award for reviewing the Journal of Molecular Structure and was named a Top Peer Reviewer in Chemistry (2018–2019) by Publons. He serves as Editor, Review Editor, and Editorial Board Member for several reputed international journals in the field of organic chemistry.
His scholarly output includes 64 research papers, 9 review articles, 1 granted patent, 4 filed patents, 3 books, and 5 book chapters. His research has garnered 1,750 citations, with an H-index of 28 and an i10-index of 44.
