About
Jomit T. Mathew
Scientist | Researcher | Educator
I am a research scientist working at the intersection of polymer chemistry, materials science, and applied physics, with expertise in marine polysaccharides, polymer nanofibers, hydrogels, and aerogels for both biomedical and environmental applications. I currently serve as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Physics, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, where my research focuses on the development of multifunctional polymer-based materials.
I hold a Doctorate in Chemistry from Mahatma Gandhi University, during which I developed electrospun biopolymer-based nanofibers and established their structure–property relationships for antimicrobial activity, cytotoxicity evaluation, wound healing, drug delivery, as well as water treatment and environmental remediation. My ongoing research equally addresses adsorption-based removal of dyes and heavy metal ions, hydrogel and aerogel engineering, and performance-driven material optimization. In parallel, I am exploring polymer nanofibrous systems for energy harvesting and flexible functional devices.
My research portfolio encompasses electrospinning, polymer blending, crosslinking strategies, hydrogel and aerogel processing, adsorption kinetics and isotherm modelling, computational studies, and patent-oriented translational research, supported by advanced characterization techniques such as FT-IR, TGA, UV–Visible spectroscopy, BET surface area analysis, and zeta potential measurements. I have hands-on experience in biological evaluations, including antimicrobial assays and in vitro cytotoxicity studies, alongside rigorous environmental performance assessment. I am proficient in scientific data analysis and visualization using Origin, ChemDraw, and BioRender, with strong emphasis on reproducibility and publication-quality reporting.
Alongside research, I bring substantial teaching and academic experience, having served as Assistant Professor and Guest Faculty, mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate students in chemistry and materials science. I actively engage in collaborative and interdisciplinary research, contributing through peer-reviewed publications, review articles, and patent filings.
My long-term research interests focus on nanostructured polymeric materials for biomedical use, environmental sustainability, and energy harvesting, with the objective of translating fundamental research into scalable and socially relevant technologies.
