About

Dr. A. K. Debnath joined in Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in 1988 as a Ph.D. student to work in high-Tc superconducting thin films after completing M.Sc. (Physics) from North Bengal University, (W.B.) India. Later, he joined as a permanent employee in 1993 at Technical Physics Division of BARC. Presently he is Scientific Officer (H) and Head, Gas Sensing Devices Section. His 2 years (2001-2002) post-doctoral research work was in CMR materials in Centre for Condensed Matter Sciences, National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan. He has extensively worked on oxide materials based gas sensor, particularly for H2S detection. He has also developed catalytic type H2 gas sensors for (LEL 0-4%). His major achievements in basic research on MBE grown metal phthalocyanine (MPc) thin films were highest mobility ~150 cm2/Vs in CoPc films, metallic type conduction in organic heterojunctions, growth of nanoweb and nanobrush structures and demonstration of ppb level Cl2 gas sensing using MPc films. He is a recipient of DAE Science and Technical excellence award-2011. His current research interest is to study the toxic gas mixture analysis, charge transport and gas sensing properties of organic-inorganic composite films, chemical state of analysis of both organic and inorganic materials using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy technique and work function measurement by Kelvin probe technique.
