About
I am a Ph. D graduate from the Chemical Engineering Department of the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, India. I graduated with honors in Bachelor's (B.Tech.) degree in Biotechnology from the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, India where I took electrospinning for tissue culture as my B.Tech. project. Subsequently, after clearing GATE, I chose bacterial chemotaxis as my Ph.D. dissertation topic which mainly dealt with the biophysics aspect of chemotaxis. We looked into the bacterial motor dynamics in response to varying environmental cues and made a novel discovery of speed modulation by the cells to perform efficient chemotaxis.
Apart from bacterial chemotaxis, I also had a chance to study cell encapsulation and perform time dependent viability studies of bacterial cells encapsulated in alginate hydrogels which have the potential to serve in therapeutics, probiotics, and many more.
I have developed expertise in bacterial cell culture, cell encapsulation, confocal imaging, spectrophotometry, and image analysis. Troubleshooting is one of the key assets that I have developed during my Ph.D. apart from being a patient researcher and a team player. Ph.D. gave me an opportunity to display my work abroad and interact with the pioneers in my research domain. My whole academic journey has taught me the importance of interdisciplinary work and how well someone can develop their skills in a variety of areas.
I have maintained a good academic record all throughout my career. I was the B.Tech branch topper. I have also bagged a prestigious internship with the Indian Academy of Sciences during the third year of my Bachelor's degree. I have received the Burroughs-Wellcome Fund Travel Award to attend the Bacterial Locomotion and Signal Transduction(BLAST) XV meet at New Orleans, Louisiana, USA in January 2019.
As a career, I would like to engage in a project which is multifaced so that it brings together experts from different areas for a common goal. I would like to be a part of the community that is involved in providing better healthcare care facilities. I am a passionate resarcher, a avid learner, keen observer and someone who appreciates the physics of nature around. Star gazing and painting brings in me the calmness and focus required to carry out my tasks.
