About
I am an experimental rock mechanist specializing in the advanced petrophysics of unconventional reservoir rocks, including shale, coal, and tight sandstone. My research focuses on nanopore structure, accessibility, and complexity, as well as the evolution of poro-permeability. I’m particularly interested in decoupling fluid dynamics from poro-elastic effects to better understand gas transport, long-term CO₂ sequestration, and enhanced recovery strategies for depleted reservoirs.
Currently, I’m working on the Tri-State Carbon Capture and Storage Project at OSU in collaboration with WVU, Tenaska, Projeo, and WVGES. Previously, I played a key role in the successful installation, calibration, and testing of a High-Pressure Temperature Triaxial Compression Testing machine in the Experimental Rock Deformation Laboratory at IIT Kanpur. This advanced setup, designed for poro-permeability measurements under differential loading and hydraulic fracturing simulations, has significantly deepened my expertise in rock mechanics and petrophysics; especially in understanding the thermo-hydro-mechanical behavior and fracturing of unconventional rocks.
I am proficient in operating nano-pulse decay permeameters, HP-HT triaxial compression systems, Quantachrome Autosorb iQ, He-pycnometers, and a wide range of sample preparation tools (coring, cutting, milling, polishing, lathe, etc.). I also have hands-on experience with synchrotron small-angle scattering, micro-CT imaging, SEM, and XRD techniques.
