Prof. S. Chakraverty has over 30 years of experience as a researcher, teacher, and academic leader. He is currently a Senior Professor (Higher Administrative Grade) in the Department of Mathematics (Applied Mathematics Group) at the National Institute of Technology Rourkela, Odisha, where he has also served as Dean (Academic) and Dean (Student Welfare). Prior to joining NIT Rourkela, he worked at the CSIR–Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Roorkee for nearly two decades.

He completed his B.Sc. in Mathematics from St. Columba’s College, Ranchi University, before moving to the University of Roorkee (now IIT Roorkee), where he obtained his M.Sc. (Mathematics) and M.Phil. (Computer Applications), securing First Position and Gold Medals in both. He was awarded a Ph.D. in Vibration and Computational Methods from IIT Roorkee in 1993. Subsequently, he undertook postdoctoral research at the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR), University of Southampton, UK, and at the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science, Concordia University, Canada. He later held visiting professorships at Concordia and McGill Universities, Canada (1997–1999), and at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa (2011–2014).

Prof. Chakraverty has authored, co-authored, or edited 38 books (with two more in press and two ongoing) and published over 500 research papers in journals and conferences. He has successfully supervised 27 Ph.D. students (with nine more in progress) and has led around 21 funded research projects from national and international agencies, with a total budget of approximately INR 2 crores. He has also organised numerous international and national conferences, workshops, and training programmes.

He plays an active role in scholarly publishing and serves as Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Fuzzy Computation and Modelling (IJFCM) (Inderscience, Geneva). He is an Associate Editor of Evolutionary Intelligence (Springer, 2025) and Computational Methods in Structural Engineering (Frontiers in Built Environment, 2018–present). He is also on the Editorial Boards of Discover Applied Sciences (Springer, 2025), Springer Nature Applied Sciences (2018–present), Modeling and Optimization in Science and Technologies (Springer Book Series, 2014–present), Coupled Systems Mechanics (CSM) (Techno Press, 2012–present), Journal of Computational Engineering and Physical Modeling (Pouyan Press, 2017–present), Engineering Research Express (IOP Science, 2017–present), and Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM) (2012–present). In addition, he has served on the Editorial Advisory Board for the Research Insights book series (IGI Global, USA, 2018–present) and for Everyman’s Science, the journal of the Indian Science Congress Association (2015–2016). He regularly reviews for more than 50 international journals.

Prof. Chakraverty has been recognised with numerous prestigious awards, including the CSIR Young Scientist Award (1997), BOYSCAST Fellowship (DST), UCOST Young Scientist Awards (2007, 2008), Golden Jubilee Director’s Award (CBRI, 2001), the Platinum Jubilee ISCA Lecture Award (2014), and the INSA Bilateral Exchange Fellowship (2010–11, 2015). He received Gold Medals from Roorkee University for securing First Position in both M.Sc. and M.Phil. He has also been honoured with the Careers360 Faculty Research Award (2023) as the most outstanding researcher in Mathematics in India. Internationally, he has been repeatedly listed among Stanford University’s Top 2% Scientists worldwide (2020–2024) in Artificial Intelligence and Image Processing, and was ranked in the top 0.05% of scholars worldwide by ScholarGPS (2024). He has also held leadership roles as President of the Mathematical Sciences Section (including Statistics) of the Indian Science Congress (2015–2016) and Vice President of the Orissa Mathematical Society (2011–2013).

His current research interests include Differential Equations (Ordinary, Partial, and Fractional), Numerical Analysis and Computational Methods, Structural Dynamics (including Functionally Graded Materials and Nanostructures), Fluid Dynamics, and Mathematical and Uncertainty Modelling using Soft Computing and Machine Intelligence (Artificial Neural Networks, Physics-Informed Neural Networks, Fuzzy, Interval, and Affine Computations).
