About
Dr. Lalit Thakur has obtained his M.Tech. (Welding Engineering) and Ph.D. degrees from Indian Institute of Technology (I.I.T.) Roorkee in 2010 and 2015, under the MHRD India scholarships. For the last 12 years, the Principle Investigator is continuously exploring new possibilities in the field of Thermal Spray Technology and has published research outcomes in reputed journals such as Surface and Coatings Technology, Surface Engineering, MRX, Tribology Transactions, Wear, JMEP, JMST, Applied Surface Science etc. His M.Tech. and Ph.D. research was purely focused on the development of HVOF sprayed nano-WC-CoCr coatings for wear resistance applications. This research was performed under the joint collaboration of IIT Roorkee and IPM India Pvt. Ltd (a reputed Metallizing service provider in India). Dr. Lalit is well-trained to handle the thermal spray equipment and as well as in most of the characterization techniques such as SEM, XRD, optical microscopy, mechanical, triblogical testing and image analysis. Dr. Lalit Thakur is currently working as Assistant Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department of NIT Kurukshetra, since September 2013.
His research areas are thermal spray coatings and TIG weld claddings for wear, corrosion, and bio-medical applications, ferro-magnetic lubricants, advanced composite development by powder metallurgy, stir casting and friction stir processing. He has guided many B.Tech., M.Tech. & Ph.D. students and their research works are also published in the reputed journals. One complete Indian patent “Self-adjustable gimbaled shoulder retractable pin friction stir welding tool” Application no. 201611042886, dated 15/12/2016, is available online. Another Indian patent "High-Temperature Oxidation and Erosion Resistant Alloy-718/Al2O3 Composite Coatings”, application no: 201911019323, is also available online.
