Sayan Dey
Nano Semic Private Limited, Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar, Columbia University
About
Dr. Sayan Dey received his PhD from the department of Electronics & Electrical Communication Engineering, IIT Kharagpur in 2020. After the completion of his PhD, he started working as a postdoctoral fellow at IIT Bombay till October 2021. Thereafter, he received the Fulbright-Nehru postdoctoral fellowship and joined as a visiting scientist at Columbia University, USA in November 2021.
His research areas include semiconductor device fabrication, chemical sensors, electrical spectroscopy, nanostructured materials and sensor interfacing electronics (both hardware and software). Presently, he has about thirty nine published research articles in reputed, high impact, peer reviewed international journals and conferences (including IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, ACS Applied Electronic Materials, RSC Advances, Nature Microsystems and Nanoengineering, etc. to name a few). He co-owns an Indian patent for his work on highly selective chemoresistive toluene vapor sensor. Presently, his research articles hold 414 citations with an h-index of 12.
He has been awarded the national award for best thesis (Innovative Student Projects Award) twice, in 2015 and 2020, by the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), respectively, for his M.Tech and Ph.D. dissertations. He is currently a senior member of the INAE since July 2025. He is the reviewer of several reputed, peer-reviewed scientific journals (IEEE Transactions of Electron Devices, IEEE sensors, RSC Advances, etc.) and has co-authored two text books on electronic device fabrication and materials processing.
He has more than twelve years of experience in nanostructure growth, solution based synthesis, sensor device fabrication, and handling clean room facilities. He is specially trained in handling X-ray diffraction, Field Emisison Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM), optical spectroscopes, thin film deposition and optical lithography units and building microdevice characterization setups (with special focus to sensor device characterization).
He is the head of the Sensors and Spectroscopy Research Group and is the professor-in-charge for the Microfabrication and Characterization (MF&C) Lab and the Integrated Devices and Electronic Applications (IDEA) Lab at IIT Bhubaneswar since 2022.
