Ritu Mathur

About

Dr Ritu Mathur is a multidisciplinary research professional and has been working in the fields of sustainable development, energy security, mitigation & climate change for around 3 decades. She is an economist by training, with a PhD in Energy Science from Kyoto University, Japan. She is currently leading the Integrated Assessment & Modelling at NITI Aayog as a Senior Energy Economist after being associated with TERI and TERI School of Advanced Studies in the Department of Energy & Environment.
She has been associated with the IPCC process as Lead Author and reviewer across various reports and is part of the global network of Integrated Assessment Modellers contributing to scenario building and mitigation related modelling using rigorous and robust global and national level models & frameworks to deliver outputs that contribute to scientific assessments and literature.
At the country level, some of her main contributions have been towards providing policy inputs for the formulation of India’s NDCs, the National Action Plan on Climate Change, and various national energy plans. Over the last few years, her work has focused on examining energy efficiency prospects across sectors, examining the possibilities and implications of deep decarbonisation pathways and scenarios that could lead India towards a net zero emissions. Additionally, she has been looking at new approaches to study the role of energy innovation and systems transition towards improved well-being and sustainable development of the economy.
