About

Dr. Debdatta Chakraborty is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English and Other Languages at GITAM Deemed to be University, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
She has completed her PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, specializing in Bengali Dalit Studies. She holds both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Banaras Hindu University.
Her research focuses on the intersections of caste and gender, particularly examining the impact of trauma on the Bengali Dalit community, Subaltern Cinema, and Migration Studies. Her academic interests span Caste Studies, Partition Studies, Film Studies, and Gender Studies, with a strong emphasis on postcolonial critique. She has published her work in several reputed international journals, including the Journal of Postcolonial Writing, Media Asia, SARE: Southeast Asian Review of English, English Academy Review, CINEJ: Cinema Journal, Archiv Orientalni, AGATHOS: An International Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Literary Voice. She has presented numerous papers at national and international conferences, highlighting the lived experiences, suffering, and identity politics of the Bengali Dalit strata. She received the Best Paper Award for her paper presentation and was a recipient of the IAFOR PCAH 2025 grant.
She also contributes to teaching as a Teaching Assistant for NPTEL courses, including “Partition Literature” and “Refugee, Migration and Diaspora.”
