About
Dr. Chandru Hanumegowda earned his undergraduate degree in life sciences from Yuvaraja’s College at the University of Mysore, where he also completed his postgraduate degree in Biochemistry at the Department of Studies in Biochemistry, Manasagangotri, Mysore in Karnataka, India. He went on to receive a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Mysore. Subsequently, Dr. Chandru joined Dartmouth Medical School in New Hampshire, USA, for postdoctoral research under the guidance of Professor Radu Varghese Stan, focusing on the role of the PV1 protein in cancer progression and angiogenesis. Later, he transitioned to a large research lab at McMaster University’s Department of Medicine, where he conducted postdoctoral research under the supervision of Professors Martin Kolb and Jack Gauldie. At McMaster, he investigated the interplay between TGFβ1 and HIF1α in the development of pulmonary fibrosis and pulmonary angiogenesis. Dr. Chandru has authored several research papers in prestigious international journals. His primary research areas include angiogenesis in cancer and pulmonary fibrosis, with a keen interest in growth factors and matrix biology related to these conditions. He utilizes animal models and in vitro cell culture techniques to explore disease mechanisms and evaluate the efficacy of novel drugs in preclinical settings.
