About
Remy Ntakirutimana is a fisheries scientist and researcher working as an Associate Researcher at the Centre de Recherche en Sciences Naturelles et de l’Environnement (CRSNE), University of Burundi, Burundi, and a PhD candidate in Fisheries Science and Sustainable Aquaculture at Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), Kerala, India. He holds a BSc in Biological Sciences and an MSc in Biology of Organisms and Ecology, specializing in Biology and Management of Aquatic Ecosystems.
His research focuses on sustainable aquaculture, fish nutrition and health, probiotics, disease management, gut microbiota, biofloc technology, and the development of environmentally sustainable approaches to aquatic food production. His work also encompasses fisheries management, aquatic ecosystem conservation, mangrove ecology, ecosystem services, and the sustainable utilization of aquatic resources. Through interdisciplinary research, he integrates fisheries science, microbiology, ecology, aquaculture, and environmental management to address challenges affecting aquatic ecosystems and food security.
Remy has practical experience in fisheries and aquatic resource management, including work associated with the lakes of Burundi, and has contributed to research on Lake Tanganyika fisheries, tilapia aquaculture, mangrove ecosystems in the Maldives, and sustainable aquaculture technologies. His research has resulted in peer-reviewed publications in journals including Scientific Reports, Aquaculture, Aquaculture Reports, Aquaculture Nutrition, Probiotics and Antimicrobial Proteins, Discover Sustainability, Discover Plants, Earth, and Thalassas.
His research interests are centered on advancing sustainable fisheries and aquaculture through science-based management, innovative production strategies, ecosystem conservation, and improved aquatic animal health. He is particularly interested in research that connects aquaculture productivity with environmental sustainability and contributes to resilient aquatic food systems in developing countries and globally.
