Dr. Swati Bute is working as an Associate Professor at the Jagran School of Journalism and Communication, Jagran Lakecity University, Bhopal. She has fifteen years’ experience working in academia and eight years’ experience working in the media industry. She earned her PhD in journalism and communication from Savitri Bai Phule Pune University. She had a six-month post-PhD visiting fellowship from the Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analysis, New Delhi (a government think tank). She previously worked as a professor at the Indira School of Communication in Pune and the International School of Business and Media in Pune. She worked at the National Institute of Health and Family Welfare in New Delhi; at Amity University, Noida, as an Assistant Professor; at Jagran Lakecity University; and at Shri Vaishnav Vidyapeeth Vishwavidyalaya, Indore, as an Associate Professor. She worked with All India Radio (the Public Broadcasting Service of India) for six years as a casual compeer and assistant producer. As a research associate, she worked with Manibhai Desai Training Institute of Management (BAIF), Pune, and participated in a one-year ethnography study held in tribal villages in Mandavi Taluka of Surat District, Gujarat. Her two edited books are indexed in Scopus. She has good experience with field research. She was part of important committees, research studies, training programs, and workshops during her tenure at NIHFW. She was a freelance field reporter for the Navbharat newspaper. She worked with Radio Veritas Asia, Indore, as a broadcaster. She worked with the Bhopal-based NGO Aarambh and UNICEF Bhopal as an editor for their newsletter and magazine for marginalised children. She worked with Audio-Visual Research Centre, Indore as a free-lancer and produced ten education programs for Gyan Darshan channel of Doordarshan. She was also a part of four completed research studies on hand-washing practises during new-born care, Impact Assessment of IEC Strategy for Prevention and Control of Deafness, A Study of Validation of Indicators for Spiritual Health, End-line Evaluation of Mother NGO’s. Her research expertise is in international affairs and media, health communication, digital media communication, print and electronic media, and cross-cultural communication. She specialises in teaching journalism, radio broadcasting, and communication research.
