About
Doctoral research, titled “Functional Interfaces of f-GO with LSNR to Recycle Wastewater Effluents Using Photocatalytic and Thermodynamic Activities for Generating Electricity,” was centered on the design and development of advanced nanomaterials for environmental remediation and renewable energy conversion. A significant aspect of my work focused on graphene oxide (GO) and its functionalization as a versatile platform for enhancing the efficiency of nanostructured materials. I developed a novel crash-reaction synthesis methodology to produce lanthanide, bi-lanthanide, and transition metal nanorods under near-ambient conditions, thereby overcoming the limitations of conventional high-temperature hydrothermal methods. The functional integration of these nanorods with GO substantially improved their catalytic, photocatalytic, adsorption, and sensing capabilities. These hybrid nanostructures demonstrated promising applications in wastewater purification, contaminant removal, drug adsorption, and energy-harvesting systems. Building on this foundation, I am keen to advance the exploration of graphene (pristine) and graphene oxide (GO), given their extraordinary structural, electronic, and chemical properties. Graphene, with its exceptional electrical conductivity, mechanical strength, and transparency, presents tremendous potential for applications in nanoelectronics, transparent electrodes, transistors, and solar energy devices. Meanwhile, the oxygen-containing functional groups in GO provide abundant active sites for surface functionalization, molecular interactions, and nanocomposite engineering, making it particularly suitable for water purification (filtration membranes, desalination), biomedical platforms (drug delivery, biosensors, anticancer therapeutics), and energy-storage devices (batteries, supercapacitors). Furthermore, both graphene and GO are emerging as key enablers in materials science innovations, including advanced coatings, sensors, and concrete reinforcement. My current research interests strongly align with your group’s expertise in nanostructured materials and energy technologies. I am particularly motivated to investigate how graphene and GO-based hybrid systems can be systematically tailored to achieve breakthroughs in energy storage, biomedical applications, water treatment, and multifunctional material design.
Sincerely,
Dr. Krishan Kumar
