About

I am Mutthuraj Dasegowda (Mutthuraj D), a PhD researcher in Molecular Oncology and Epigenetics at JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research, Mysuru, India. My doctoral work sits at the intersection of molecular oncology, translational cancer research, epigenetics, and the therapeutic potential of bioactive natural products, with the goal of translating fundamental biological insight into clinically meaningful strategies for cancer management. My current research investigates the anti-cancerous properties of Moringa oleifera in epithelial ovarian cancer, employing integrated molecular and cellular approaches to elucidate its mechanisms of action.

My academic interests span molecular oncology, cancer biology, molecular medicine, bioinformatics, molecular docking, nanomedicine, phytochemical therapeutics, and precision oncology. I am especially drawn to unraveling the molecular signaling pathways that drive cancer initiation and progression, and to identifying novel therapeutic targets through rigorous, interdisciplinary biomedical inquiry that bridges bench research with translational application.

I believe that a deep, mechanistic understanding of molecular oncology is fundamental to advancing both medicine and cancer care. By dissecting the signaling pathways and molecular alterations that underlie tumor initiation, progression, and drug resistance, I aim to generate insights that can inform more precise diagnostic markers, rational therapeutic combinations, and patient-specific treatment strategies. My work with bioactive natural compounds such as Moringa oleifera reflects this broader ambition: to bridge phytochemical and molecular research with translational oncology, contributing to safer, more accessible, and mechanistically grounded therapeutic options. In doing so, I hope my research will not only expand fundamental knowledge of cancer biology but also feed directly into the evolving landscape of precision medicine, ultimately narrowing the gap between laboratory discovery and clinical benefit for patients.

I have contributed to a body of peer-reviewed research articles, review papers, and book chapters addressing oncology, medicinal plants, bioactive compounds, molecular medicine, and translational therapeutics. My interdisciplinary approach also extends into research instrumentation and innovation, reflected in two registered designs granted by the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks, Government of India: a Hot Plate Analgesiometer for Measuring Stress Activity in Animals (Design No. 464997-001) and an Apparatus for Estimation of Plasma Drug Concentration (Design No. 463653-001), both developed as part of collaborative research efforts aimed at advancing preclinical and pharmacological research tools. Alongside this, I actively engage in scientific peer review, present at academic conferences, participate in collaborative research initiatives, and mentor emerging student researchers, all of which I regard as integral to fostering a rigorous and reflective scientific community.

My contributions to molecular oncology, cancer biology, and interdisciplinary biomedical research have been recognized through the Junior Research Fellowship awarded by JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research, as well as young researcher and young achiever honors.

I am committed to the pursuit of lifelong learning in medicine and disease biology, continually deepening my understanding of the molecular underpinnings of disease as a foundation for scientific discovery that carries genuine clinical relevance. My long-term vision is to advance translational cancer research and precision medicine through scientifically rigorous, evidence-driven, and clinically applicable approaches that ultimately improve patient outcomes.
