About

Dr. Joydeep Mukherjee, FAAM was born on 04th May, 1971 in West Bengal, obtained his B.Sc. (Ag) from Visva Bharati, Shantiniketan, West Bengal in 1993; M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Agricultural Physics with from Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi in 1996 and 2000 respectively. Dr. Mukherjee has served as Assistant Professor (Agrometeorology) for 10 years in Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, as Senior Scientist (Agrometeorology) in ICAR-Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna and is currently serving as Principal Scientist at ICAR- Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi.
Dr. Joydeep Mukherjee’s contributions to Agrometeorology research includes crop micrometeorology particularly energy balance studies, satellite agrometeorology, microwave remote sensing and the applications of crop models in real world problem solving situations has helped him in getting research funds from highly competitive agencies in the World and India including World bank, Indian Space Research Organization, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Department of Science & Technology and Sir Ratan Tata Trust. He has handled seventeen research projects in the capacity of Principal Investigator and Co-PI.
Dr. Joydeep Mukherjee is an eminent teacher of Agricultural Meteorology. He has guided 14 M.Sc. and 2 Ph.D. students as major advisor. The World Meteorological Organization invited him to act as a committee member to construct syllabus on Agrometeorology. He has developed several audio visual teaching aids for Agromet courses of under and post graduate programme. He has done an advanced training on Application of GIS in Precision Agriculture in the Ohio State University and visited the University of Florida, Lake Alfred, USA. His M.Sc. student was awarded Prof. P S N Sastry award for Best M.Sc. Thesis in Agricultural Meteorology.
Dr Joydeep Mukherjee has published more than 140 peer-reviewed research articles in both national and international journals. He has also authored 4 book, 15 book chapters, 21 popular articles and 2 teaching manuals. He has attended 15 international and 41 national conferences/seminars/workshops.
Dr. Joydeep Mukherjee has got several fellowships and awards including Junior Research Fellowship, Senior Research Fellowship of ICAR, best scientist of Agricultural Physics, best research paper award of AAM. He is also member of meteorological instruments specification committee of Bureau of Indian Standards. Presently, he is working as Principal Scientist in Division of Agricultural Physics, ICAR-IARI and working in the field of satellite meteorology and leading a ICAR funded network project on Precision Agriculture which involve 16 ICAR institute.
