About
Shefali Vinod Ramteke is a doctoral researcher in the Department of Applied Sciences at the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (IIITA). Her research focuses on Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)-based spraying systems, precision agriculture technologies, and climate-smart farming solutions.
Her doctoral work integrates field trials across multiple crops (rice, mustard, sugarcane, mango, cotton) with Python-driven data analysis, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), Intelligent Management Models (IMM), and Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA). She has demonstrated how UAV spraying can reduce water and pesticide use by up to 70%, cut CO₂ emissions by 50%, and improve deposition efficiency across complex canopies.
Her research contributions include:
1. Variable-rate spraying models that adapt UAV parameters (nozzle type, droplet size, speed, height) to canopy density and phenological stage, using prescription maps and real-time data.
2. Machine Learning applications in UAV spraying, including regression models for drift prediction, Principal Component Analysis (PCA) for canopy–droplet interactions, and CNN/U-Net architectures for aerial imagery segmentation and canopy mapping.
3. Development of LiDAR + Tiny-CNN frameworks for canopy porosity estimation and feedback-driven adaptive path planning for UAVs to maximize energy efficiency.
4. Linking UAV spraying with groundwater-energy-emission models, providing a systems-level perspective on sustainable agricultural input management.
Her broader interest lies in bridging agri-tech innovation with farmer-centric adoption frameworks, exploring how UAVs, AI, and IoT can enable resource-efficient, scalable, and climate-resilient agricultural practices in India and beyond.
