My research interests aren in the area of sociology of gender, media studies, theory and pedagogy. I have retired as a Professor of Sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University in October 2021.

I am also a co founder of the website Doing Sociology
I am serving as the President of the Indian Sociological Society (ISS) (2024-2025)
