About
I am Ajay Krishan Gairola, a Ph.D. scholar in Computer Application with a specialized research focus in deep learning for medical image analysis, particularly in the early and accurate diagnosis of skin diseases. My current work revolves around developing hybrid deep learning architectures, combining Vision Transformers (ViT) and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), to enhance classification performance and generalization across diverse and imbalanced dermatological datasets.
My doctoral research has led to the creation of a two-stream fusion model that integrates ViT and CNN feature maps using intermediate and late fusion techniques. The model has achieved state-of-the-art results on several benchmark datasets such as HAM10000, ISIC2016/2017, and a newly introduced clinical dataset Skin_Disease_v1, which I co-developed in collaboration with Subharti Hospital, India. This research not only contributes to academic progress but also addresses critical healthcare needs in underrepresented populations.
I am passionate about building explainable, ethical, and privacy-preserving AI systems for real-world medical use. My future interests include federated learning in healthcare, multi-label diagnosis frameworks, and deployable mobile health solutions for dermatology and public health screening. I also maintain active collaborations with clinical experts to ensure that the AI models I develop are interpretable and clinically relevant.
My long-term goal is to bridge the gap between AI research and practical healthcare solutions by designing transparent, scalable, and data-efficient diagnostic systems. I am currently seeking postdoctoral opportunities to expand this work into broader biomedical domains.
