About
Dr. Ajay Gautam is an Assistant Professor in Materials Engineering at IIT Jammu. His research focuses on the structure–transport relationships in materials for lithium-ion and solid-state batteries, advanced materials processing, and characterization using X-ray and neutron diffraction. Previously, he was an R&D Scientist at Samsung SDI Europe GmbH, Germany, where he focused on the processing of battery materials for next-generation battery technologies. Dr. Gautam earned his Ph.D. at the University of Münster and Justus Liebig University Giessen, Germany, under the supervision of Prof. Wolfgang Zeier. His doctoral work established key parameters of structural disorder and ion kinetics to unravel the structure–ion transport correlation in solid electrolytes. He pursued postdoctoral research with Prof. Marnix Wagemaker at Technical University of Delft, the Netherlands. There, he worked on the development of solid electrolytes, investigated their structure–transport properties using neutron diffraction, and explored silicon anode–solid electrolyte systems with a focus on degradation mechanisms and scaling strategies toward industrial relevance. He completed his B.Sc. (Research) and M.Sc. in Materials Science at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, where he explored carbon nanotubes with transition metals for electrochemical and gas sensing applications.
