About
I am Rakesh Kumar, recently in 2023, I did my Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak on the topic entitled “Molecular characterization and development of diagnostics for Onion yellow dwarf virus associated with Onion (Allium cepa L.) crop in India” under the supervision of Dr. V.K Baranwal, National Professor, ICAR-IARI, Delhi and Dr. Sonia Kapoor, Professor, UIET, MDU, Rohtak, Haryana. Presently, I am working as “Senior Project Associate” at Division of Plant Pathology, ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, India and carrying out research on High throughput sequencing (HTS) based identification, molecular characterization, development of serological and nucleic acid-based diagnostics for identification of viruses/viroids associated with important clonally propagated horticultural crops. Presently, I am also working on development of RT-RPA coupled CRISPR based diagnostics for detection of mandariviruses associated with citrus crops. Overall, I have more than 10 years of research experience in diverse field of plant sciences which includes more than 7 years of experience in plant molecular virology and 3 years of expertise in molecular nematology research. I also have a six-month M.Sc. dissertation work experience in development of Alternaria resistant transgenic Brassica juncea plants by overexpressing antifungal chitinase gene under the control of 35S promoter by Agrobacterium mediated transformation. I am well versed with numerous molecular biology techniques which includes PCR, qRT-PCR, multiplex PCR, Immunocapture PCR, RPA assay, protein expression, extraction and purification, SDS-PAGE, western blotting, DAC and DAS-ELISA, RNAi construct designing, gateway cloning, plant tissue culture techniques, transgenic development, database and bioinformatics tools i.e. NCBI, EXPASY, ClustalW, Bioedit, MEGA X, RDP 4, SDT, ORF finder, Primer 3 and IDT etc.
