About

Fascinated by the field of electronics from the boyhood days, I planned to become a researcher in this area. I pursued physics studies at Calcutta University, where I earned the degrees of Bachelor of Science with honors and Master of Science in 1976 and 1979 respectively. After completing master's degree, I began working with Prof. D. Dutta Majumder of the Electronics and Communication Sciences Unit of the Indian Statistical Institute at Kolkata. Prof. Majumder asked me to begin with the research work on speech processing and recognition, but this was a temporary assignment.

In May of 1983, I joined the Department of Atomic Energy's Atomic Minerals Exploration Group. I realized that there were ample scopes of data processing interpretation using statistical methods, and during this process Shri S. G. Tewari, who retired in 1994, asked me to undertake certain important studies. During this time, with the aid of my colleagues, I was able to produce some major breakthroughs, including the development of a method for the interpretation of radon data for purposes of recognition of buried uranium deposits based on the intercept parameter of a linear regression model. This caught the attention of News Media, The Times of India, which published a citation under the headline "New Method to Find Uranium". Twenty years later, in 2008, other workers echoed the same conclusion.

While working with the Exploration Group, I completed a Ph.D. in physics at Osmania University. That same year, 1989, I processed and interpreted airborne radiometric data using statistical significance analysis for demarcating an area of high uranium potential, which proved to be exactly where the Lambapur uranium deposit was found three years later.

Developed a method for the statistical evaluation of optimum radon emanometric technique based on the concept of correlation in 1990. Paper reprints were requested from the University of Gottingen, Germany; Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, India; the Institute of Natural Resources, Spain; Lawrence Berkley Laboratory, California, U.S.A.; and Physical Research Laboratory, India.

The following year, I carried out work on R-mode factor analysis for finding geochemical association of radioactive and trace elements in the QPC of Dhanjori basin, Singhbhum, Jharkhand State, India. This work was included in "High Resolution Provenance", which was written by Prof. Darrel Henry of Louisiana State University, U.S.A.

In 2006, I carried out work on a new high background radiation area in the geothermal region of Eastern Ghats Mobile Belt (EGMB) of Orissa, India. This work was included in "Science Direct Top 25 Hottest Articles", July - September 2006.

After retirement in 2015, I'm involved now with a meritorious student community development project in association with 'Anuranan Science Awareness' organization.
