About
My name is Dipak Kumar Das, and I specialize in demography and data analysis with an emphasis on public health. I am currently working as an Assistant Professor (Statistics and Demography) in the Department of Community Medicine at Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (MGIMS), Sewagram. I obtained my Doctorate in Biostatistics and Epidemiology from the International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai, in 2024. I also hold an MSc (2016) and an MPhil (2017) in Biostatistics and Epidemiology from IIPS. In addition, I have completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Development (PGDRD, 2019), a Post Graduate Diploma in Occupational Health (PGDEOH, 2024), and a Master of Social Work (MSW, 2024) from IGNOU.
The primary aim of my research is to examine disease and morbidity patterns, wastewater management, and the impact of agricultural practices on public health, particularly in the northeastern states of India. My PhD thesis focused on the effects of pesticides, fertilizers, sullage, and agricultural machinery on the health of farmers in Tripura. My earlier dissertations on morbidity patterns and sullage disposal in India further reflect my interest in environmental and occupational health.
Previously, I worked as a Chief Research Fellow at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, where I contributed to a cluster-randomized controlled trial in Ratnagiri district assessing the impact of oral cancer screening on mortality. I have also worked as a Field Investigator on the “Alive and Thrive” project in Bangalore, which focused on maternal and infant nutrition.
I have authored research papers and a book chapter, contributed to multiple Hospital-Based Cancer Registry reports, and participated in cancer early detection programs in Maharashtra. I am proficient in SPSS, STATA, SAS, Python, R, ArcGIS, and QGIS, fluent in Bengali, Hindi, and English, and aspire to contribute to evidence-based public health research and data-driven policy development.
