About
Dr. Bhagwat Singh Chouhan is a postdoctoral fellow at INRS – Énergie Matériaux Télécommunications (INRS-EMT) working at the intersection of nonlinear optics and terahertz photonics. His current work develops a metamaterial-based, actively tunable terahertz waveguide for next-generation communication systems. His broader research advances active and passive broadband terahertz metamaterials for wireless communication and sensing, emphasizing planar and multilayer architectures that enable broadband, polarization-insensitive, and tunable responses.
He earned a Ph.D. in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, where he designed and fabricated terahertz metasurfaces integrating phase-transition materials (e.g., VO₂ and perovskites), investigated electromagnetically induced transparency and bound states in the continuum, and built expertise in THz time-domain spectroscopy, computational modeling (CST/COMSOL), and cleanroom nanofabrication (electron-beam lithography, photolithography, thin-film deposition). His work blends experiment and machine-learning-guided design to realize tunable terahertz devices, has appeared in leading optics/photonics venues, been presented internationally, and contributed to patentable innovations. He has received recognition at conferences and a national hackathon, served in IEEE Photonics Society leadership, and mentors emerging researchers in metamaterials, plasmonics, and terahertz device engineering, with the goal of closing the terahertz gap for practical technologies.
