About
Dr. Balaram Sarkar is a microbiologist and environmental researcher with a PhD in Ecological Studies from the University of Kalyani. His research focuses on microbial biofertilizers, nitrogen-fixing bacteria (NFB), phosphate-solubilizing bacteria (PSB), potassium-solubilizing bacteria (KSB), plant–microbe interactions, rhizosphere microbiology and sustainable agriculture. His research experience includes the isolation and characterization of beneficial microorganisms, development of biofertilizers, promotion of plant growth, microbial stress tolerance, resistance to antibiotics, pesticides, heavy metals and metal biosorption.
His current research interests include microbial ecology, environmental biotechnology, rhizosphere–microbe interactions and sustainable microbial technologies for soil health and nutrient management. He is particularly interested in applying molecular and genomic approaches to understand beneficial and stress-adapted microorganisms and their interactions within agricultural environments.
