Debdeep Bhattacharyya is a dedicated scholar in the field of Geography, currently pursuing his Ph.D. at Fakir Mohan University, Balasore. With a strong academic foundation, he holds an M.Sc. in Natural Resources Management and Geoinformatics and a B.Sc. in Geography. His academic journey is further distinguished by clearing the UGC NET examination in Geography twice, underscoring his expertise in the subject.
Debdeep's doctoral research, titled "Forecasting Lightning Strikes: Enhancing Accuracy with High-Resolution Models and Machine Learning in Odisha," is conducted in collaboration with the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) and with support from IITM Pune. This innovative project combines advanced geospatial techniques and machine learning to improve lightning forecasting accuracy, addressing a critical environmental and societal challenge.
His research interests extend to climatic studies, coastal change dynamics, the impact of cyclones, vegetation cover change, shoreline analysis, and lightning studies. During his postgraduate studies, Debdeep co-authored five research papers published in reputed journals and contributed to a book chapter, reflecting his strong inclination toward scholarly pursuits.
Debdeep's technical proficiency in GIS, remote sensing, satellite image interpretation, ArcGIS, and QGIS, along with his practical experience from a three-month internship at GarudaUAV, highlights his comprehensive skill set. In recognition of his innovative research, he was honored with the Best Poster Award in the Physical Science category at the Odisha Research Conclave 2024, selected among 202 independent scholar posters from across the state.
Beyond academics, Debdeep actively shares his knowledge through his YouTube channel, "Dawn of Geospatial World," which aims to teach geospatial techniques to a global audience. His dedication to research and education positions him as a promising contributor to the academic and professional geography community.
