About
Aida Domínguez Sáez, is a researcher at the Pollutant Emissions Unit of the Department of the Environment of the Centre for Energy, Environment and Technology Research (CIEMAT) since 2011. Previously, she was contracted by CIEMAT to carry out her doctoral thesis entitled “Contribution to the study of the number and distribution of sizes of particles emitted by engines in urban traffic” qualified as summa Cum Laude and read at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. In the predoctoral stage, she carried out two research stays, one at the IDAEA Atmospheric Inorganic Geochemistry Department (Jaume Almera Institue of CSIC) for the application of source contribution models, and another at the Institute for Environmental and Sustainability (Transport and Quality Unit of the Air EC-JRC, Vehicle and Emissions Laboratory, Ispra, Italy) for the evaluation of portable instruments to measure pollutant emissions in on-board conditions. The thesis concluded with 3 papers and a research patent through which the first mobile laboratory for the measurement of the emission of particles and gases under dynamic conditions was developed, a work that served as a line of research for the GEV-CIEMAT, and that has been reproduced in other laboratories around the world.
The main research lines coordinated since having completed the thesis have been: "Application of unconventional methodologies for the analysis of pollution emission data", "Characterization of emissions through on-board instrumentation" and “CFD studies of vehicular exhaust plume”. Since 2020, and within the framework of the Office for the Control of Emissions from Large Combustion Plants OCEM-CIEMAT, she has also headed the line "GHG Emissions from Large Combustion Plants".
She has worked in 9 competitive call projects both European (Horizon 2020 and LIFE +) and national with European and Spanish partners (public and private organization), and in 3 public sector management assignment and other minor contracts, being responsible in most of the projects of the experimental campaigns and data analysis.
She has published 19 papers and book chapters (h index= 9), 8 of them Q1 and one Q2, with an average number of citations/paper=31. She has participated in more than 25 conferences and congresses (national and international). She has directed 6 final Master Degree's projects and 10 curricular practices of students of the Polytechnic University of Madrid at CIEMAT.
In addition to the first mobile laboratory for the measurement of polluting emissions and vehicle activity, she has carried out the installation and validation of a pilot plant for the measurement of polluting emissions (including CFD modelling, sensorization and data acquisition) and has collaborated in the “Design, construction and application of a prototype to obtain high quality biodiesel based on mixtures of glycerine esters and methyl esters” together with the University of Seville. She collaborated in 2011 with the JRC as support and assistance for European regulations on polluting emissions, as well as advising the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment in 2014 for the preparation of the Draft Royal Decree regulating emissions of atmospheric pollutants from vehicle engines.
